The Dam Slam

June 29th 5:00PM at Common Fields

Join us for the first annual The Dam Poetry Slam, presented by Mid-Valley Poetry Collective and hosted by Common Fields. Historically, poetry slams were more about building community surrounding poetry than they were about competition. The excitement surrounding the competition is what allows for the community building.

Imagine reaching for the mic, and sharing your soul through the small diaphragm behind screen mesh, hearing your voice through the stage speakers and feeling the pulsating energy fueling your moment. When your three minutes have passed, as you take your final exhale… the rush of adrenaline as not one, not three, but five “10s” rise up through the sea of listeners. When the emcee announces you as the first winner of The Dam Slam, you will know that not only have you become a part of keeping poetry alive in Corvallis, but no one else will ever be able to say they won the FIRST Poetry Slam in Corvallis.

If you would like to participate as a poet in The Dam Slam, please fill out the form below.

Slam Poetry has been around since 1984, created by an architect named Marc Smith. It is a competition, but it is not a competition.
